Riga hold public consultation events on the Riga City Sustainable Energy Action Plan for Smart City 2014 to 2020
Supported by Riga Energy Agency (REA), Riga is working on enhancing its Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP) within the framework of the international EU project STEP UP. Riga’s current SEAP was approved by Riga City Council in 2010 and the proposed enhancement of the SEAP will expand on the previous version and outline new commitments with the goal of acquiring smart city status for the city of Riga. The process of producing a new Sustainable Energy Action Plan for a Smart City 2014 to 2020 is underway including public discussions and consultations.
At the STEP UP conference in Brussels on 24th April 2014, Maija Rubina, Director of Riga Energy Agency set out Riga's plans for its enhanced SEAP. Ms Rubina's presentation is available to view or download below, it describes the history of Riga's energy policy, the city's aspirations for attaining smart city status, targets, management structures, the actions and projects that will deliver CO2 reductions and transition to smart city status and measures included in Riga's action plan. New Action Plan for Riga - Smart City
The first public forum was held in Riga City Council, during Riga Energy Days 2013 on 11 October in a seminar - "New Action Plan for Riga - Smart City", where the main topic of discussion was energy production. The second public forum held on 23 January, 2014, also in Riga City Council, focussed on the themes of energy solutions for multi-apartment buildings and retrofitting of public buildings in Riga.
On 21 February, 2014 a third seminar was held, this time with discussion on "New Action Plan for Riga - Smart City" focussing on funding of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources implementation measures.
As with the previous two occasions, the discussion was organised in Riga City Council and broadcasted on the internet. Video recording will soon be available on the REA website www.rea.riga.lv . However Riga still encourages stakeholders to attend the seminars in person and actively participate in discussions.
On 14 March, 2014 Riga Energy Agency will host the final seminar in this series – it is intended that there will be discussion of when the SEAP enhancement process for the new action plan will be completed and when the new Riga City Sustainable Energy Action Plan for Smart City 2014 to 2020 will be submitted to Riga City Council for approval. Some of the SEAP actions are shown below.
